Virtual Taster Day at Royal Holloway University 29/06/20
The Mathematics department of Royal Holloway University held the first ever virtual taster day on Monday 22nd June. This replaced their hugely popular outreach event ‘Exploring Maths’ this year. Various professors from well-known universities talked about interesting topics related to Mathematics, such as ‘The Mathematics of Doodles’ and ‘The Shape of Space’; this was then followed by a detailed discussion on the UCAS application process. Some students accessed this from home while others accessed it on-site. A few students found the UCAS section really helpful. A student in Year 12 conveyed his views by stating, “I played the games myself after the session was over and learnt more about the process of UCAS which was really helpful, I enjoyed it a lot.” Another keen Year 12 student said, “It was really interesting; I think some of the definitions were slightly lost in translation in-between me taking notes and rationalising what the speaker was saying, but it was overall really good.”
Rosedale College were really pleased to have still been able to participate in the taster day, despite the current situation.
